ASTRA 2006

 
Prevention and Education Program

- Basic trainings on “Child Trafficking – Education and Prevention” for 50 teachers, educators, psychologists and staff of the Shelter for Urgent Protection of Abused Children.

- Media campaign “Child Trafficking – Our Reality” dedicated to a suppression and prevention of trafficking in children.

- Preventive activities targeting youth (Exit festival, Sport Fest, festival in Šabac).

- ASTRA, in cooperation with Red Cross of Serbia and Montenegro, held a series of workshops on the prevention of trafficking in human beings through peer education for volunteers of Red Cross Youth.

- A series of workshops for youth.

- At the Belgrade University Law School, ASTRA and Save the Children gave a lecture on “Child Trafficking and Human Trafficking”.

- ASTRA was one of the lecturers at a series of trainings “Child Trafficking in Serbia – A Threat and A Reality” organized by NGOs Child Rights Center for professionals from local media, the judiciary, the police, social welfare centers and NGOs.

- Education for border police representatives about trafficking in human beings were one of the lecturers were ASTRA member.

- ASTRA representatives were among the lecturers at the training “Human Trafficking: Towards Better Mutual Understanding in Order to Combat It More Efficiently” for the students of the 6th semester of the Police College.

- Two lectures in Loznica on human/child trafficking. The first lecture targeted high-school population and the second the NGO sector, social welfare centers, professors, the media and wider public.

SOS Hotline and Victim Assistance

- Within SOS Hotline and Direct Assistance Program, during 2006, ASTRA received 1814 calls made by 371 clients. Of this figure, 44 were identified as trafficked victims who were provided with medical, legal and psychological assistance.

- Establishing and developing ASTRA Daily Center, a safe place where our clients have opportunity to attend creative and educational workshops, individual and group therapy, self-help groups, various recreational programs, economic empowerment programs.

- Active member in the Working Group for direct victim assistance.

- Monitoring of court cases of trafficking in human beings, in which ASTRA clients appeared as victims/witnesses.

Research and Reporting

- Manual for Peer Education “Human Trafficking – Our Response”.

- Pilot research “Human (Child) Trafficking – A Look through the Internet Window” which investigate the recruitment of victims of trafficking through the Internet.

Networking

- Three meetings of ASTRA Network dedicated to strategic planning, reforming the Network, defining the internal organization, identifying goals, and planning future actions.

- Strengthening of ACTA (Anti Corruption Anti Trafficking Action).

- ACTA members wrote a draft of “Victim Assistance Protocol”.
